#ramen#izakaya#hawaiian#usa#sanfrancisco#sfHeard there was a new ramen spot in the Mission, so I knew I needed to check it out ASAP! Came with a friend for dinner on a Monday around 5:30 and it was pretty empty.
Ordering was pretty straightforward as they only offer 4 types of ramen: pork tonkotsu, tori paitan, spicy tori tantanmen, and mushroom shoyu (with a vegetarian broth). My friend and I both ordered the pork tonkotsu ($15), which includes pork chashu, a slow poached egg, bamboo shoots, green onions, and black garlic oil.
We were both kind of disappointed by the tonkotsu ramen. The broth wasn't that rich compared to most other tonkotsu broths I've had and was extremely salty to boot. I love to finish the broth but I couldn't finish this one.
My favorite part of the bowl was the chashu as it was smoky and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The egg was also disappointing as it was poached and not soft boiled. I'm used to poached eggs with udon but expect soft boiled with ramen, since it's way more satisfying to bite into a soft egg with some ramen noodles.
There was an automatic 18% service charge, even for the two of us.
Btw - they have beer and wine on the menu as well as some non-alcoholic drinks.

We walked in pretty late on Friday night and we were informed that they only had Pork Tonkotsu left. Apparently, it was their grand opening week—so they must have been busy!
Our order:
Wagyu Beef Carpaccio
Pork Tonkotsu Ramen
The ramen came out before the carpaccio which was a little odd, but the carpaccio was very good! The ramen was pretty good as well—but the broth was a little thick and starchy. When cooking at home, we one time made the mistake to cook the noodles in the broth which made the broth very thick with the extra starch from the noodles. This broth had a very similar taste to it, but other than that, the pork was very good and the noodles were cooked nicely.
We may come back again. It was their first week, so I am sure that they have a few kinks to work out. The service was very good, so that in itself makes me want to come back!
